LA JOLLA, Calif. – LMU scored the first two goals of the before UC San Diego responded with the next six to take control of the second meeting between the two programs in less than a week. The #7 Tritons took the game in their home pool, 14-9, from #12 LMU.
Caden Poulou opened the game with a powerplay goal just 32 seconds into action.
Alika Naone doubled the lead with a converted penalty shot at 5:39 in the first. UCSD took two more in the period to tie the score at 2-all. The score remained tied at two after
Finn Friedland saved a penalty shot with less than a minute showing in the period.
The Tritons started the second quarter with six unanswered goals in less than four minutes to take a 6-2 lead.
Abel Romero Corbalan put an end to the streak with a penalty conversion of his own. Richie Rilminger brought the Lions within two after scoring with just under three minutes to play in the half. UCSD added two more in the final 2:30 to take an 8-4 halftime advantage.
Naone started the second half with a goal before UC San Diego responded with the next two. Romero Corbalan scored his second of the game at the 2:44 mark of the third. The Tritons added one back to make it an 11-6 game after three.
UCSD took their largest lead of the day after scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter.
Tommaso Baldineti scored both of his goals in the fourth quarter.
Nico Furneaux also scored in the final period for LMU.
Friedland made nine saves in the cage for the Lions.
LMU will return home on Saturday to face the nation's top-ranked team, UCLA, The game will be played at Burns Aquatics Center at 1:00 PM. Admission is free.
