Women’s Soccer Receives Team Academic Award for 2017-18

2017-18 Recipients | All-Time Recipients

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced last Thursday the Team Academic Award winners at the high school and collegiate levels to recognize exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2017-18 academic year.

For the 18thtime since 1999, and sixth consecutive year, the Loyola Marymount women's soccer team has received the recognition.

"I'm always very pleased with how well our team does academically," said Head Coach Michelle Myers. "They do have a lot on their plate with soccer, and yet they are always working very hard when we travel. We don't have to get on them, they are very self-disciplined when it comes to their academics, which is a nice thing for our coaches to have."

A total of 773 college teams (289 men, 484 women) earned the Team Academic Award for last season. To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) to be eligible.

"I was looking at it for our conference," said Myers. "I think we got six out of eight men's programs and eight out of ten women's programs, so I think it speaks very high for our conference that we are a very academic oriented conference. We are student-athletes that compete on and off the field."

The Lions posted a 3.40 GPA for the 2017-18 school year.
