Tritons Score in 88th Minute to Mark Heartbreak for Lions

LA JOLLA, Calif. — LMU fell to UC San Diego 2-1 on Monday afternoon.

Cameron Bourne scored a game-tying goal on her only shot. This marked her second goal of the season and her third overall as a Lion. Alaina Lee recorded an assist and added two shots, including one on goal. JJ Hoover played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with a season high nine saves.

Lucrezia Sasso forced Charlotte Wilfert into a save at 1:33, and Alaina Lee added another shot on frame at 5:12 during an active start for LMU. UC San Diego responded with the next stretch of pressure, but Hoover saved an Alexis Nguyen shot in the eighth minute before the Lions came back with attempts from Lee and Hailee Takao around the 22nd minute. The Lions put four of their five first-half shots on goal and got three saves from JJ Hoover, sending the match to halftime scoreless.

Sasso put LMU's first shot of the half over the frame, while JJ Hoover made two saves during a UC San Diego stretch that also included four corners and a shot off the right woodwork. The Lions answered a second-half deficit quickly, as Bourne scored off Lee's assist at 60:37 to equalize at 1-1 just over a minute after UC San Diego had gone ahead.

After Bourne's goal, Hoover added four more saves as UC San Diego continued to create chances, including another shot off the woodwork in the 76th minute. Sarah Melcher forced Charlotte Wilfert into a save at 85:21 after she was found by Kate Kubiak. Melcher's driven effort was just touched over the bar.
