LMU and Davis Play to 0-0 Draw on Balmy Thursday Afternoon

LOS ANGELES — LMU played UC Davis to a 0-0 tie Thursday afternoon at Sullivan Field. The Lions finished with an 11-7 shot advantage and put four shots on goal while holding UC Davis to two.
 
JJ Hoover recorded a shutout in goal, finishing with two saves. It was her second consecutive clean sheet. 
 
Isabelle Smith led the Lions with three shots and put one on goal. Alaina Lee added two shots, both on frame.
 
The Lions created the clearer early chances in the first half, putting three shots on frame in the opening 14 minutes as Alaina Lee forced two saves and Isabelle Smith added another attempt saved by Cat Pieper. JJ Hoover answered UC Davis' best verified look on target in that stretch, stopping a Sydnie Fong shot in the seventh minute to keep the match scoreless. The Lions continued to press after the opening exchanges, with Smith sending two more shots off target before UC Davis recorded later attempts and a corner kick. The half finished with the match still scoreless at 0-0.
 
In the second half, JJ Hoover kept the match scoreless with a save on Payton Henry in the 48th minute, and the Lions answered with a Sophia Bastidos shot, a corner kick and a Maci Land attempt in the 52nd minute. UC Davis applied pressure midway through the half with two shots and four corners from 59:22 to 67:05, but the Lions did not concede during that stretch. Cameron Bourne added a shot in the 64th minute. The Lions closed with a late push, earning four corner kicks from 80:15 to 87:07 and putting shots on frame through Taylor Person, Kate Kubiak and Sydney Schuler. They were unable to break through as the match ended in a draw.
 
Up next, the Lions travel to La Jolla, California, to face UC San Diego on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, at 2 p.m.
