LOS ANGELES - Steven Haney, Jr. opened the game with a knock-down three pointer and the Lions never looked back, defeating Cal State LA, 87-66, on Tuesday night.

The Lions (4-2) benefitted from a 14-0 run in the second half to push the lead to 20 points after a closer period. Cal State LA (6-1) went scoreless for 5:51 minutes during that span.

Mattias Markusson jammed home his second dunk of the early goings to put the Lions ahead 11-2 at the 16:34 mark, but the Golden Eagles chipped away the deficit to two. Markusson tied his career best in both points and rebounds after a 14 and eight performance.

As CSULA went on a cold-streak to end the first, missing nine straight shots over a four and a half minute stretch, and finishing the half 2-for-13, Zafir Williams hit a jumper as time expired from the top of the key to five himself a new career high of 12 points. He finished as the second leading scorer with 16 points and tied his career-best mark with seven rebounds.

Eli Scott led all scorers with 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in the process.

James Batemon hit double-digit assists for the first time in his career and finished with an LMU season-high 12 dimes. As a team, the Lions totaled a season-high 22 assists on 34 made baskets.

Most of LMU's points came inside as the Lions dominated points in the paint, 54-12.

LMU has a couple days to prepare for Oregon State. Saturday's game from Corvallis will air on the Pac12 Network at 2 p.m.
