LONG BEACH, Calif. --The LMU women's soccer team handed No. 18 Long Beach State its first loss of the season as it topped the Beach, 2-1, Friday night at George Allen Field.

Juniors Pilar Torres and Sydney Zuccolotto each roped their first goals of the season, while Charlee Pruitt made four stops in between the pipes.

Long Beach State outshot the Lions, 18-13, but LMU made its shots count as two of its four shots on goal went through.

Just 16:34 into play, Torres netted her first career goal as a Lion, snapping the back of the net off a corner kick by Maddie Medved to give LMU the early advantage.

The score would hold until the 72:12 mark when the Lions tacked on another score to further their lead. Medved fed the offense once again as she found Zuccolotto, who headed the ball past the keeper to make it a 2-0 game.

The two-goal lead was short-lived as the Beach closed the gap less than a minute later to put the score at 2-1.

Long Beach State fired off four shots in the final 10 minutes of play, including one from point-blank range at 81:58, but Pruitt and the defense held firm as the Lions picked up their first road win of the season.
