Just as she did on April 3 against Saint Mary's, freshman Elvira Juravliova earned the clinching victory on court four for LMU, this time topping Sophia Chow of San Diego, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0, to help LMU (8-10, 3-3 WCC) to a 4-3 victory over San Diego (7-8-1, 4-4 WCC) on Friday from the LMU Tennis Center.

The Lions got off to a great start on Friday, earning the doubles point by way of victories on courts one and three. Jessica Perez and Juravliova defeated Drew Spinosa and Dana Oppinger, 6-2, while Anna Romeka and Tatijana Sheikhan topped Shani Belcher and Colomba DiFilippo, 6-4, to capture the doubles point.

The Lions managed to earn the first two singles points to claim a 3-0 lead in the match score, but USD refused to surrender without a fight. Andrea Crespo had the first victory for LMU, defeating Oppinger, 6-1, 6-0, on court two. Perez followed up the victory with one of her own on court one, defeating Marta Stojanovic, 6-2, 6-1.

The match turned in favor of USD from there, with the Toreros wining on courts five, six and three to draw even in the match score. Court three was decided in three sets, but after winning the second set, Kristine Kouyoumjian dropped the third, 6-1, to Spinosa to focus all the attention on court four and Juravliova.

The native of Moldova was working on a three-set match of her own after splitting the first two sets, 6-2, 5-7. Fortunately for LMU, Juravliova hit her groove from there, sweeping the third set, 6-0, to take the match and hand LMU the victory.

LMU will return to action tomorrow when it hosts BYU at 1 p.m. The Lions will then conclude a string of three home matches in as many days, hosting #44 Oregon on Sunday at 11 a.m.
