"We were right there," said head coach Charity Elliott. "We mixed up some things defensively and honestly the last three minutes it just came down to we didn't execute as well as we needed to and they hit some shots. I'm really really proud of how we fought, our energy, our mindset and toughness tonight."
The Cowgirls opened the final stanza with an 8-0 run, taking their first lead in over 12 minutes of play at 48-47. Jackie Johnson nailed a runner in the lane to tie it back up at 50-50 with just over five minutes left in regulation, but Oklahoma State reeled off a 16-8 run to close out the game, taking it by a final score of 66-58.
"We've come a long way in the last two weeks and we've learned a lot about ourselves," remarked Elliott. "Now we know what we have to do every night and if we bring this kind of effort every night, we're going to be all right."
The Lions will stay on the road as they head to San Diego State on Sunday. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
