Men's Soccer Tripped by Pacific in OT, 2-1

Oct. 14, 2016

Final Stats

LOS ANGELES -- With just under a minute remaining in regulation, freshman Garrett Amador delivered the game-tying goal to send the LMU men's soccer team into overtime against Pacific, but the Tigers had the final say as they came away with the 2-1 decision off an own goal in extra time Friday night at Sullivan Field.

After a scoreless first half, Pacific's (9-3-0, 1-1 WCC) Tristan Blackmon put the Tigers ahead in the 53rd minute until Amador tallied his first career goal with 41 seconds left in regulation to push the match into extra time. However, an own goal on a clear attempt just over four minutes in handed LMU (6-7-0, 0-2 WCC) its second defeat in conference play.

"It was a really gutsy effort for them to take a goal in the second half and fight, and fight, and fight, and finally get the equalizer with a minute left in the second half," said head coach Paul Krumpe. "I'm very proud of the effort."

The first half featured a highly competitive contest as both teams picked up a pair of yellow cards, while the offenses pressed to no avail. Pacific broke the stalemate in the 53rd minute off a free kick as Andres Ochoa served it inside the box and Blackmon outstretched his leg and got enough of the ball to cross it past the goal line.

With time running out, Matt Gooden intercepted a pass off a Pacific clear attempt and served the ball down the right win, where Maurice Morton headed the ball towards the box. A Tiger defender attempted steer the ball clear with a header, but the ball fell to Amador's foot, who slotted the equalizer just inside the right post.

Midway through the extra frame, Pacific's Camden Riley worked a breakaway down the right wing and crossed it to an awaiting Anthony Orendain inside the six-yard mark. A Lion defender slid in an attempt to get to the ball before Pacific, but the ball trickled across the goal line as the Tigers came out on top, 2-1.

"It's disappointing," said Krumpe. "It's a good team, they're going to win a lot more games. It's a long road back for us now, but we're going to go after it on Sunday and see what we do."

LMU will close out the weekend with a 1 p.m. matchup with Pacific on Sunday.
