March 9, 2015 SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Freshman third baseman Alicia Brown has been named the West Coast Conference Softball Player of the week for the week of March 9, the league announced Monday. This is the first career honor for Brown and the first Player of the Week for an LMU player since Sterling Shuster took home the honor on March 24, 2014.
Brown came alive at the plate last week, hitting .556 (10-for-18) with a 1.222 slugging percentage and .579 on base percentage, to help LMU to a 4-2 record. Her 10 hits included three doubles and three home runs, while she also scored five times, drove in eight runs and walked four times.
Brown opened the week going 3-for-3 with two doubles and one home run in a 10-0 shutout of Howard on Wednesday. In the nightcap of that doubleheader, she went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, one double, one home run and one run scored as the Lions won 10-7.
Against UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Brown went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the first game of a doubleheader. She continued her hit streak in the nightcap, going 1-for-3. The Lions would split the doubleheader, 10-2 and 3-12.
On Sunday, she went 1-for-2 with a walk and run scored in a 10-2 win over Howard and 1-for-2 with a sacrifice hit in a 0-6 setback to UC Riverside.
The Lions return to action Tuesday, March 10, hosting Providence College in a doubleheader on Smith Field. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
