LOS ANGELES— LMU softball couldn't hold on in the game against the Saint Mary's Gaels Friday afternoon, falling 8-3.
The Lions opened the scoring with a bang. After back-to-back walks to
Justine Lambert and
Arianna Jaurequi,
Jasmine Sofowora launched a three-run homer to left center, giving LMU an early 3–1 advantage.
SMC answered in the third inning, capitalizing on a bunt single, a defensive miscue, and a three-run home run to take a 5–3 lead.
The Gaels kept the momentum going, scoring two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to stretch the lead to 8–3.
LMU had chances to claw back.
Analiah Lummus recorded two hits and reached scoring position twice, while
Sydney Poole came off the bench to provide a pair of base hits.
Izzy Jamgotchian also reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks. Unfortunately, the Lions couldn't bring runners home.
The teams will meet again tomorrow at Smith Field at 11 a.m. for a rematch and to celebrate Senior Day.
