SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Paul Blanchette was named the West Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 19, the league office announced Monday. This marks the second such honor for the senior goalkeeper this season.
Blanchette was superb in goal for the Lions last week, making 10 total saves and recording a pair of shutouts as LMU blanked Gonzaga, 1-0, and Portland, 3-0. The clean sheets were his fifth and sixth of the season, and rolls his career total to an LMU record 17.
On Friday against the Zags, the senior tallied all five of his saves in the first half to help the Lions head into the second half in a scoreless draw. His defensive work paid off in the second half as his offense got him a one-goal lead in the 65th minute.
On Sunday, Blanchette turned away three Pilot shots in the first half and two more int he second as his offense provided him with three goals. With six shutouts on the season, Blanchette is now one away from tying his own LMU record of seven, set in 2013.
