LOS ANGELES – It was a night to remember at Sullivan Field as junior defender
Quinn Galvin delivered a true man of the match performance, scoring the game-winner and anchoring a shutout effort to lead LMU past Utah Tech, 1-0, on Monday afternoon. The Lions improve to 4-2-1 with the victory.
Galvin broke the deadlock in the 70th minute, darting into the box and finishing off a rebound from Diego Lopez-Rosales for his first career goal. The strike not only gave LMU the lead but capped a standout two-way performance from the veteran defender, who was instrumental in keeping the Trailblazers off the board.
At the other end, goalkeeper
Philip Hovers rose to the occasion, making six saves to lock down his first collegiate clean sheet. Utah Tech earned a pair of corner kicks in the second half and fired eight total shots, but Hovers and the Lion back line stood tall to preserve the win.
LMU finished with nine shots, three on goal, and controlled the tempo late to close out their second straight home victory.
The Lions now turn their focus to the road, traveling across town to face CSUN on Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. (PT).
