LOS ANGELES - Melissa Lewis, a midfielder hailing from Alamo, Calif., who spent her freshman season on the Cal Bears women's soccer team, has joined the LMU Lions squad beginning in the spring of 2015, LMU Head Coach Michelle Myers announced Wednesday.
Lewis appeared in 12 matches off the bench for the Bears during the 2014 fall season. She logged 148 total minutes, attempted four shots, including two on frame and tallied her first collegiate goal in a 4-0 shutout of Saint Mary's on Sept. 5.
"We are excited to have Melissa join our program this spring," said Myers. "It was a bit of an early Christmas present when she told us in mid-December that she would like to be a Lion. Melissa spent the fall at Cal and enjoyed her soccer experience but just felt the size of the university wasn't the right fit for her. Her former coaches spoke very highly of her both on and off the field.
"Melissa is a dynamic, left footed midfielder with a good engine," Myers added. "She is very good technically and has the ability to help us possess the ball, as well as, create dangerous opportunities in the final third."
Lewis attended San Ramon Valley High School for her final three prep seasons, earning East Bay Athletic League second team honors in 2012 and 2013. Her squad was an North Coast Section finalist in 2011 and 2012 and won the NCS Championship in 2013. Lewis also competed for the Mustang Soccer Club from 2003-14.
Following a 9-8-2 fall season, the Lions are back at it for their spring session, which includes seven matches.
