CINCINNATI, Ohio - A sluggish first half that produced just one shot attempt ultimately resulted in a 2-0 setback at Xavier for the LMU men's soccer team Tuesday evening.
Trailing 1-0, the Lions (2-3-2) would outshoot the Musketeers (5-3-0) 6-1 in the second frame, but surrender a late goal that put the match away.
The Lions' lone shot of the first half was attempted by Sebastian De Rada and blocked by an Xavier defender. The Musketeers got on the board at the 26:43 mark on an 18-yard shot by Will Andriot sent into the far post netting.
De Rada had his first attempt of the second half saved by XU's Eric Osswald, before the Musketeers' keeper came up with back-to-back saves on a pair of Adrien Perez attempts. Perez had a third shot attempt blocked in the 64th minute.
Pressing forward late, LMU surrendered a second goal in the 83rd minute, this time to Will Walker, who assisted Xavier's first score.
Vince Paldino finished with a pair of saves in goal for the Lions while Osswald made four saves on the night.
LMU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 26, hosting Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. on Sullivan Field. The Lions will be honoring all of their program's alumni in attendance at halftime as part of the celebration of the 50th year of men's soccer. Alums intending to attend the game are encourages to RSVP here.
