2014 NSCAA All-Far Region Teams
LOS ANGELES - Craig Nitti and Adrien Perez were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Wednesday, earning recognition on the 2014 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Men's Soccer All-Far West Region Teams. Nitti, a redshirt senior defender, was named to the second team while Perez, a sophomore midfielder, made the third team.
This marks the second straight All-Far West Region honor for Nitti, who was also a second team selection in 2013. It is also the first time since 2010 (Rafael Baca and Roger Downes) that the Lions have placed multiple players on the all-region teams. Nitti is the first Lion to repeat since Baca (2008-09-10).
Also a First Team All-West Coast Conference selection in 2014, Nitti anchored the LMU back line to nine shutouts and a 0.68 GAA for the season, including four shutouts and just four goals allowed in WCC play. He also supplied key offense, finishing with five goals and one assist for 11 points.
Perez, followed up a stellar rookie season by taking the reigns of the midfield this past fall. He would finish in a tie for the team's point lead (17) with five goals and a team-high seven assists. Through just two seasons in a Lion uniform, Perez's career goal total of 16 ranks in a tie for seventh all-time at LMU while his assist total of 12 is just three shy of entering the LMU top 10.
The Lions, who finished 9-4-6 overall, went unbeaten in six of their seven WCC matches this fall, but that mark would include three draws as they settled for a 3-1-3 league mark, good for fourth place. Their nine shutouts tied the all-time program record which was set in 2002 while the four losses also tied the program low (also set in 1980, 2002 and 2013).
