LOS ANGELES - A point guard and shooting guard tandem from Mater Dei High School who also share the same last name, a power forward out of Chatsworth, Calif., and a true center from Sierra College round out the LMU women's basketball 2015 recruiting class, Head Coach Charity Elliott announced Thursday.
Sisters Andee and Bianca Velasco, Cheyanne Wallace and Megan Roberson have all signed National Letters of Intent and are set to join the Lion program beginning in 2015-16.
"We are so excited for this entire 2015 class," Elliott said of the quartet. "Each of these young ladies bring a tremendous work ethic and championship mindset to help take LMU women's basketball to the next level. They are each high character young ladies and committed student-athletes."
Andee Velasco, a four-year starter for Mater Dei High School, enters her senior season as a team captain, McDonald's All-American Nominee and listed at No. 61 on ProspectsNation Elite 150 list. The 5-8 point guard led Mater Dei to a 27-3 overall record and perfect 9-0 Trinity League finish in 2013-14. The squad reached the CA Southern Section Open Division title game and the CA CIF Open Division Regional Semifinals.
"Andee is a program changer," Elliott said."She is a true professional in every way, both on and off the floor. She has tremendous poise and confidence on the floor and knows what it takes to win championships. She will make everyone on this team better from day one."
Andee has earned All-Trinity League and All-County honors all three years, is a two-time Second Team All-CIF selection and a two-time First Team All-State Division I honoree. Ranked the No. 31 point guard in the 2015 recruiting class by HoopGurlz, Andee was also the starting point guard for the Cal Storm Team Taurasi in 2014, winning the EYBL National Championship.
Bianca Velasco will join sister Andee on the LMU squad after four successful seasons as teammate for Mater Dei HS. The 5-8 shooting guard is ranked the No. 88 guard in the 2015 recruiting class by HoopGurlz.
"Bianca is a great spot up shooter and a leader in every sense of the word," said Elliott. "She plays with such passion and fire and, like her sister, she knows how to win. On the floor, Bianca can be a lock down defender and a deadly outside threat. Off the court, she has a way of keeping everyone on the team focused and energized. I can't wait to coach her."
Bianca has starred on the three-time Trinity League champion Mater Dei HS team, earning All-Trinity League Honorable Mention honors as a junior in 2013-14. Mater Dei won the Division IAA CIF Southern Section and CIF State Championship titles in 2011-12 and the section and state semifinals in 2012-13.
Cheyanne Wallace hails from Sierra Canyon High School where she led the prep squad to the 2013-14 CA CIF Division IV State Championship. The 6-0 power forward had 21 points and 18 rebounds in the title game, a 64-37 win over Justin Sienna, wrapping up the season earning First Team All-State Junior Class, First Team All-Daily News and First Team All-Alpha League honors.
"Cheyanne is an ultra competitor and is a warrior on the boards and in the paint, but she can also step out and hit a three," Elliott said. She can also guard anyone on the defensive end and, like the others, she knows how to win and is one of the hardest workers I've seen."
Ranked No. 58 among forwards in the 2015 recruiting class by HoopGurlz, Wallace has also competed for the West Coast Premier Club Team.
Megan Roberson was a three-year varsity player at Del Campo High School where she averaged 12.3 ppg, 14.1 rpg and 7.6 bpg during her senior season in 2012-13. She collected eight triple-doubles while her best prep performance was a 15-point, 24-rebound and 13-blocked-shot outing. She earned All-Capital League honors as a junior and senior, was team captain and team MVP as a senior, while also being named Del Campo's Student-Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of her final campaign.
"Megan is the true 5 player we have been looking for," Elliott said. "She will have three years to play here at LMU and will be an immediate force inside. She has great hands, great mobility and can get up and down the floor. Plus, she's got this year to continue working and developing in a great Sierra College program. We can't wait to get her here to LMU."
The 6-4 center is competing for Sierra College this winter before transferring to LMU in the fall of 2015.
"We cannot wait to get them into a crimson and navy jersey!" Elliott concluded. "The future looks incredibly bright for LMU women's basketball and we are truly humbled and grateful that they have chosen LMU."
