LOS ANGELES - West Coast Conference play rolls on this week as the LMU women's soccer team hosts BYU on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Sullivan Field. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The match will serve as LMU's annual pink game in which the Lions help raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. The squad will don pink uniforms for the match while giveaways for fans include pink cupcakes for the first 200 fans through the gates and pink drawstring bags for the first 50 LMU students in attendance.
The Lions (8-4-2, 1-2-1 WCC) welcomed Morgan Hilby and Sarah Sanger back into the lineup last week (following a two-game absence due to injury) and their impact was immediately felt in LMU's unbeaten weekend of action. Hilby netted one goal in each contest and Sanger provided a pair of assists as LMU topped Pacific, 3-1, and tied Saint Mary's, 2-2.
Shannon Kent also scored at Saint Mary's, giving her a team-best five goals on the season. Hilby leads the team in points with 12 off of four goals and four assists while Jocelyn Blankenship picked up three assists last weekend and now has a team-high six on the season.
In goal, Sophia Leksan has played all 1,330 minutes and averages just a 1.02 GAA to go along with four shutouts.
Riding an eight-game win streak, the Cougars (9-3-2, 3-0-0 WCC) enter the week ranked No. 19 in the latest NSCAA poll. During the win streak, BYU has outscored its opponents 23-4 and has posted three shutouts. Ashley Hatch leads BYU with 11 goals and five assists for 27 points. Katherine Snyder has seen the majority of the action in the net and holds a 0.68 GAA, 9-0-0 record and four shutouts.
