LOS ANGELES — LMU women's soccer head coach Chris Chamides has announced the addition of Lawson Vaughn to the program's coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Vaughn joins LMU after serving on the staff at Cal State Fullerton, where he helped the Titans finish No. 1 in NCAA Division I in goals-against average (0.400) and shutout percentage (0.700) during the 2024-25 season. He worked primarily with defenders and midfielders, focusing on defensive organization and tactical structure, while also managing GPS tracking technology for training load monitoring and assisting with film review and individual development plans.
"We look forward to working with Lawson," Chamides said. "I have watched his successful progression from professional player to college coach, and I am excited to have his commitment and work ethic in our program. He will be a great addition to an already strong staff as we build into the next phase of our program's development."
Chamides and Vaughn share a prior connection, Chamides was on the Chivas USA staff during Vaughn's time with the club.
Prior to entering the college coaching ranks, Vaughn spent four seasons in Major League Soccer with Chivas USA (2006-08) and D.C. United (2009), making 51 regular-season appearances with 42 starts. He was selected by Chivas USA in the third round, 25th overall, in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft. His standout campaign came in 2007, when he started 22 games and helped Chivas USA capture the Western Conference regular-season title.
A four-year collegiate starter, Vaughn played his first two seasons at South Carolina before transferring to Tulsa, where he was part of the Golden Hurricane's first-ever NCAA Division I Elite Eight appearance in 2004. He earned All-Missouri Valley Conference and All-Midwest Region second-team honors that year. Before his collegiate career, Vaughn was a decorated youth player from Marietta, Ga., earning 5-A Georgia High School Player of the Year honors in 2002 and captaining the Georgia ODP State Team from 1997 to 2002.
Vaughn holds a master's degree in business analytics from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Tulsa. He and his wife, Desiree, a Cal State Fullerton women's soccer alumna, reside in Orange County with their three children.
