LOS ANGELES – Seattle U scored twice in the first half to defeat LMU 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Sullivan Field.
Kyla Schuster opened the scoring in the 14th minute with assists from Bella Bonnett and Sydnee Smith to give the Redhawks an early advantage. Caroline Penner extended the lead to 2-0 just six minutes later with an unassisted goal at 20:40.
The Lions fought to claw back into the match but couldn't solve Seattle goalkeeper Kassidy Kirgan, who made three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Callan Harrington was LMU's most active offensive threat, forcing a save from Kirgan in the 43rd minute with a shot to the bottom center of the goal. Harrington continued to press in the second half, testing Kirgan again early in the period with another shot on target.
LMU generated additional chances late as they pushed for a goal.
Alaina Lee's shot to the bottom right in the 73rd minute required another save from Kirgan, keeping the Redhawks' two-goal cushion intact.
Despite the Lions firing 15 shots compared to Seattle's 13, only three of LMU's attempts found the target. Harrington led the attack with four shots total, but the Lions couldn't capitalize on their opportunities.
The loss drops LMU to 5-6-5 overall and 2-4-4 in WCC play, while Seattle improved to 9-3-6 and 5-3-2 in conference.
