LOS ANGELES - LMU men's soccer began its defense of the West Coast Conference crown with a 4-0 shutout of the league's newest member, Pacific, Friday night at Sullivan Field.
The Lions move to 7-3-3 overall and 1-0-0 in the WCC with their fourth straight win, also extending their unbeaten streak to six straight. Pacific fell to 2-10-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
Alvaro Madrigal put the Lions on the board just six-and-a-half minutes into the match with his first collegiate goal. the freshman ran onto a through ball from Sebastian De Rada into the box and drove a shot into the far post netting.
The Lions held a 15-6 shot advantage in the first half, but were unable to put another ball past the goal line, settling for a 1-0 lead at the break.
LMU broke things open in the second half as Leon Prikhodovskiy, De Rada and Dylan Seedman tallied goals. Just moments after going a man down after Madrigal was issued his second yellow card of the match, Prikhodovskiy made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute. Adrien Perez forced a Pacific turnover, Prikhodovskiy was able to collect the lose ball and burry it into the back of the net.
De Rada tallied his fifth goal of the season in the 81st minute, heading home a cross from Grant Sampson at the back post. Seedman finished off the LMU scoring with just three minutes to play, chesting in a cross from Cruz Corral.
The Lions closed things out with a 23-8 shot advantage, forcing six saves by Tigers' goalkeeper Josh Adachi. Vince Paldino earned his second straight shutout for the Lions, making one save on the night.
WCC action continues Sunday as the Lions close out a three-match home stand against Saint Mary's at 1 p.m.
