LOS ANGELES - Goalkeeper Sophia Leksan who hails from Moraga, Calif., is the third of the eight-member recruiting class joining the LMU women's soccer program this coming fall.
Leksan, who will add some much needed depth to the goalkeeper position, comes to LMU from Campolindo High School where her team won the Diablo Foothill Athletic League Championships during three of her four years starting in goal. At Campolindo, Leksan was the Defensive MVP of the Diablo Foothill League during her sophomore year and the MVP of the league during her junior year. Leksan was also named as Player of the Week for Cal Hi Sports during her junior campaign.
Besides putting up a great wall in goal for Campolindo High School, Leksan also led her Lamorinda United Club team (the #1 ranked team in Northern California) to the prestigious Surf Cup Quarterfinals and the finals of numerous big tournaments including the Cal North State Cup. Leksan has also been a member of the Cal North State ODP pool and can best be described as an aggressive goalkeeper.
"Sophia is not afraid to come off of her goal line to win balls and tries to control the game by really dominating her area with her keen understanding of positional and angle play," LMU Head Coach Michelle Myers said. "Her ability to play the ball with her feet is as good as any field player and for those who can remember the 90's, she reminds me of Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos (without the bright outfits). Sophia will definitely bring a new dimension to our goalkeeping squad."
