Short-Handed Lions Battle No. 17 Bruins

Sept. 11, 2011

Box Score

LOS ANGELES - The LMU men's soccer team played a man down for nearly the entire match against No. 17 UCLA Sunday, but kept the Bruins in check in a 2-1 loss at UCLA's North Athletic Field.

Senior midfielder Logan McDaniel was sent off in the 13th minute after being issued a red card, forcing the Lions to play the remaining 77 minutes with 10 players.

An LMU misclear in the box led the UCLA's first goal as Ryan Lee tapped in a shot from the right side, putting the home team on the board in the 12th minute.

At the 26:15 mark, Chandler Hoffman made it 2-0 UCLA with his fourth goal of the season. The Bruin forward took a pass from Evan Raynr and slotted a shot past LMU goalkeeper Jack McCormack.

The Lions cut their deficit in half just seven minutes into the second half as a hard UCLA foul in the box awarded LMU a penalty kick. Artur Jozkowicz converted the PK for his first goal of the season.

A physical game from the opening kickoff, 26 total foul calls were whistled, along with seven yellow cards and one red. Despite being out-shot 13-4, LMU's defensive line limited UCLA may quality opportunities as only three Bruin shots were on frame.

LMU, now 2-3-0 on the season, is back in action Friday, Sept., 17 at 3 p.m., hosting No. San Jose State at Sullivan Field.
