LOS ANGELES, Calif. - With the 2010-11 school year just completed, many are still trying to figure out what to do for the summer. For LMU golfer Jake Sarnoff, there was little time off. Sarnoff has already started play in summer tournaments and has picked-up where he left off in finishing seventh at the West Coast Conference championships.
On May 11, Sarnoff shot a round of 68 at the U.S. Open Amateur City Qualifier held in Los Angeles, Calif., at Wilshire Country Club. He finished third overall, qualifying him for the U.S. Open Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, Calif., on June 6. A top finish there earns him a trip to the U.S. Amateur Championship at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisc., Aug. 22-28, 2011.
A week later, on May 17, Sarnoff posted a final round of 71 to post a four-round score of 282 to win the 2011 Pasadena City Golf Championship at Brookside Golf Club. Sarnoff was the only player in the field to post a final score under par. He opened with rounds of 70, 65 and 76. He finished six-strokes better than Dan Sullivan, who posted a 288.
Greg Moss, who won the 2009 WCC Individual Championship as a senior for the Lions, won the 2010 Pasadena City Golf Championship.
Joining Sarnoff in qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Sections is two-time WCC champion Brian Locke. The Lions' all-time leader in stroke average shot a 71 at Dragonridge Country Club in Henderson, Nev., to finish in a tie for fourth an qualify for the sections in Nevada.
