Sept. 11, 2010
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 2010-11 LMU men's golf season will begin when the Lions travel to the Palouse Cougar Collegiate hosted by Washington State University at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club on Sept. 13-14. The new campaign for the Lions will begin with a young rotation of five players as they will send a roster that features no seniors and just one upper classman.
The 2010-11 campaign will begin with the starting rotation of junior Jake Sarnoff, freshman Tyler Torano, sophomore Boris Stantchev, sophomore transfer Eduardo Chavez and sophomore Bryan Bergna. All told, John Lim is the only senior on the Lions' 10-man roster, with Sarnoff and fellow junior Andrew Waldron joining Lim as the only upper classmen.
Joining Torano, Chavez, Stantchev and Bergna as underclassmen on the Lions roster are freshman Kyle Berka, sophomore transfer Nick Cahow, and freshman Parker Middleton.
Sarnoff led the Lions in 2009-10 with a 72.9 average while Boris Stantchev had a busy summer, playing in the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship. Sarnoff, Lim and Stantchev played in all 33 rounds a year ago with Bergna playing in 30.
With the young roster, ninth-year head coach Alex Galvan expects there will be tough competition all season. "Every player on this roster is capable of making an impact for us this season," said Galvan. "Each week heading into a tournament, it will be completely open to who the five golfers will be that represent us. That competition should really push us to get better."
Thus, a new twist in the Lions' line-up for the season's opener at the Palouse Cougar Collegiate. Here is the tournament information:
