LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Tomorrow Morning the Women's tennis team will play in the first round of the WCC Tournament at 8:00am at Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. The Lions were given the 8th draw in the tournament and are seeded against top ranked Saint Mary's College in their first match up. The Lions should have some tough competition ahead of them to advance but hopefully can play well in the back draws to place well in the conference overall.
The Lions will graduate four seniors Jane Pringle, Maria Garcia-Plana Albert, Audrey Bulkley and Bliss Nixon this year and are looking to close out a rocky spring season on a positive note. Recently back in the line-up for the Lions, Shauna Morgan earned the Lion's only win against University of San Francisco in singles play. On court six Morgan defeated Alana McMahon of USF 6-2, 6-2 to give the Lions their solo point on the day. Elisaveta Pironkova and Jasmin Heckel had two conference wins over USD and Portland in doubles play to wrap up their regular season. Elisaveta Pironkova has also been playing well for the Lions in singles she has won two of her last four singles contests. Senior Jane Pringle who has moved up to play at the number two position for the Lions has had some tough losses, however recently she and Pironkova has found some doubles success. Melissa Valenzuela is looking to snap a three-match slump as she previously had three straight wins against New Mexico State, UCSB and Saint Mary's. Seniors Bliss Nixon and Audrey Bulkley can always contribute in singles and doubles play for the Lions.
