LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Coming off a close victory over New Mexico State, the LMU women's tennis team could not hold off top UCSB falling 5-2. The Lions had vicotries today from Melissa Valenzuela on court three over UCSB's Annabel Gledden 7-5, 6-4 and Elisaveta Pironkova on court four.
In doubles play the Lions were shut out by the gauchos. On court one, Bryanna Ojeda/Tova Hausman defeated LMU's Jane Pringles and Elisaveta Pironkova 8-2. On court three, Bliss Nixon and Melissa Valenzuela started off strong however could not stop Jordan Dockendorf/Natalia Lozano of UCSB falling 8-4. Finally on court three UCSB's Jill Damion/Annabel Gledden defeated Shauna Morgan and Audrey Bulkley 8-3.
In singles play the Lions earned their two points from the day from Elisaveta Pironkova on court two and Melissa Valenzuela on court three. On court two Elisaveta Pironkova defeated Jill Damon going to a third set tie breaker to decide the win 6-7, 6-4, 10-8. In a long-winded battle, Melissa Valenzuela defeated Annabel Gledden 7-5, 6-4 to secure a point against the Gauchos. On court one Jane Pringle played well against Sofia Novak of Santa Barbara however fell 6-3, 6-4 while Natalia Lozano topped Estelle LaPorte 6-2, 6-2 on court two. In other singles play, Bliss Nixon came close to Jordan Dockendorf 7-6, 6-2 and Audrey Bulkley fell to Hausman 6-0, 6-2.
Next up the Lions will face a tough conference match up against Saint Mary's on Wednesday March 31st at 1:30 pm and University of Arizona on Saturday April 3rd at 1:30 pm.
