LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The LMU men's golf program will head to Long Beach, Calif., and Virginia Country Club for the 14th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic in a rare Thursday-Friday tournament. The first two rounds, which in college golf are normally Monday, will be played this Thursday, Oct. 22 with the final round on Friday, Oct. 23.
The Lions will send six players to the Del Walker, with Andrew Waldron playing as an individual. The Lions team will be made up of Jake Sarnoff, Boris Stantchev, John Lim, Blake Nicolai and Brandin Cohen. The sophomore Sarnoff leads the Lions with a 72.2 average while the newcomer Statchev is second with a 73.0.
This year's field features 10 teams, including Arizona, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Colorado State, Idaho, host Long Beach State, Oregon, Pacific, Saint Mary's, Santa Clara, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Wyoming and the Lions.
The Virginia Country Club will once again serve as host for the 14th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic hosted by Long Beach State. The VCC (par 70, 6,633 yards) was established in 1909 and will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. VCC is located at 4602 N. Virginia Road in Long Beach and is just 10 minutes from the LBSU campus, Downtown Long Beach and Long Beach Airport.
Colorado State has won the last two tournaments, shooting a tournament record 811 a year ago.
