Los Angeles, CA - Josh Green, a former assistant coach at Minnesota State, Iowa, and Pepperdine, has been named to the same position at Loyola Marymount University, Head Women's Soccer Coach Joe Mallia announced Wednesday. Green will be involved in all aspects of the Lion program, with an emphasis towards recruiting.
"We are excited to have Josh as a member of our staff," Mallia said. "His experience through the years in the college game and his attention to detail are going to be major additions to our program."
Green comes to LMU after two years as the Graduate Assistant Coach at Minnesota State University. He helped the Mavericks to the 2007 North Central Conference Championship and an NCAA Division II Tournament appearance, along with a Top-10 National Ranking. Green worked with the goalkeepers and defenders, coaching the team to a perfect 12-0 conference record in 2007, allowing just five goals while recording eight shutouts in NCC play.
Prior to arriving in Mankato, Green spent two seasons at the University of Iowa, where he was both goalkeeping coach and recruiting coordinator. Green began his coaching career in the West Coast Conference at Pepperdine, where he spent seven seasons and won the 2002 WCC Championship with NCAA Tournament appearances in 2001, 2002, and 2003.
"I feel very privileged to be able to have the opportunity to work with and learn from Coach Mallia and Coach Michelle Myers. They have a wealth of knowledge and experience that I know will help me become a better coach," Green said. "Also, my family and I are very excited to become a part of a special team like the women's soccer team here at LMU."
As a player, Green was an All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and All-West Region goalkeeper at Cal Lutheran University. He went on to play for the San Fernando Valley Golden Eagles of the USISL before serving as the development squad goalkeeper for the Los Angeles Galaxy in 1996, the inaugural season of Major League Soccer. A native of San Diego, Green earned a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Physical Eduction with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Cal Lutheran in 1994. Most recently, he completed his Master of Sciences degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in the Psychological Aspects of Sport from Minnesota State University.
LMU went 12-6-1 overall in Mallia's first season with the Lions, tying for third in the WCC with a 4-3-0 record. The Lions open their 2008 campaign at home on August 22 against UNLV.
