Myklebust, Harrington Score in Road Draw

SAN DIEGO — LMU twice led but couldn't hold on, settling for a 2-2 draw with San Diego on Saturday afternoon at Torero Stadium.

Emma Gustad Myklebust calmly converted a penalty kick in the 25th minute to give the Lions (5-5-4, 2-3-3 WCC) an early 1-0 advantage. The defender stepped up and slotted her second goal of the season into the bottom right corner after Callan Harrington was fouled on the left side of the box.

San Diego (4-4-7, 1-4-3) answered before halftime when Maquena O'Callaghan finished a well-worked sequence in the 37th minute to level the match at 1-1.

LMU regained the lead in the 72nd minute on a beautifully crafted goal. Cameron Bourne delivered a precise long pass that split the Toreros' backline, sending Harrington in alone on goal. The forward showed excellent composure, tiptoeing around goalkeeper Ilise Medrano before slotting home her sixth goal of the season to make it 2-1.

The Lions held the advantage for 15 minutes before San Diego struck back. Josefine Schlichting unleashed a powerful right-footed shot from 20 yards out in the 87th minute, finding the upper left corner to equalize at 2-2.

Goalkeeper JJ Hoover made four saves for LMU, while Harrington led the offensive effort with seven shots, putting four on target. The Lions earned a valuable road point in the WCC standings.
LMU will return to action Saturday, Nov. 1, at Santa Clara.
