SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
Kennedy Swift scored in her first Lions appearance, but LMU had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Santa Clara on Saturday afternoon at Stevens Stadium.
Swift, making her debut for the Lions, calmly finished into the right side of the net in the 76th minute to give LMU the lead. The goal came after
Emma Gustad Myklebust sent a long ball into the top of the box, where
Callan Harrington headed it toward Swift for the finish.
The assist was particularly sweet for Harrington, who had earlier made a crucial goal-line clearance to keep Santa Clara off the scoreboard and preserve the scoreless match.
However, LMU's lead lasted just over 10 minutes. Adee Goulden equalized for Santa Clara in the 86th minute, assisted by Kat Jordan and Raygen Lewis, to earn the home side a point.
Goalkeeper
JJ Hoover was stellar in net for the Lions, making six saves against a Santa Clara attack that fired 24 shots. LMU managed just two shots on the night but capitalized on one of them.
Swift received a yellow card shortly after her goal in the 77th minute.
