Los Angeles, CA - LMU women's soccer players Lacey Bartels and Kim Feeney have been named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas University Scholar All-West Region teams, it has been announced. Bartels was a Second Team selection while Feeney was among those awarded Honorable Mention status. This is the first Scholar All-Region award for both players.
Bartels, a junior from Colorado Springs, CO, was an anchor in the Lion midfield, starting all 19 games and playing the third-most minutes of any outfield player at 1612. She finished fourth on the team in scoring with five points from two goals and an assist. All of her points came in LMU victories as she scored the game-winning goal against Oral Roberts and provided the game-winning assist versus Harvard. She also added an insurance goal in the victory over Cal State Bakersfield. Bartels has a 3.66 grade-point-average and is majoring in Natural Science.
Feeney, a junior from San Ramon, CA, led the Lions in minutes played with 1720 and was an Honorable Mention All-West Coast Conference selection for the third straight year. Bartels and Feeney have each been named WCC Scholar Athletes in the past two academic years. Their inclusion in the 2008 NSCAA Scholar All-West Region team marks the third straight year in which two or more Lions have been selected regionally. Earlier in December, the Lions were the only WCC team recognized for their team grade-point-average as they earned a 2008 NSCAA/adidas Women's Team Academic Award. On the field, LMU went 10-6-3 overall in 2008, finishing in sole possession of third place in the WCC at 5-2-0.
