Los Angeles, CA - LMU freshman Roger Downes has been named to the College Soccer News 2008 All-Freshman Third Team, the organization announced Friday. The award is the latest for Downes, who marked his debut collegiate season by also being voted the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year and to the conference's Second Team.

Downes (San Clemente, CA) started in all 18 his appearances at central defender, helping stabilize a Lion backline that posted a 1.28 goals-against-average, second-best in the WCC. Despite missing the final two games of the season, he finished third on the team in minutes played with 1691. He is the second Lion to be recognized by College Soccer News, joining Diego Barrera, who was a Third Team selection in 2004.

LMU (7-8-5, 5-6-1 WCC) finished fifth in the WCC.
