Lions Earn Academic Accolades

Los Angeles, Calif. -- Five different Lions were honored for their excellence on the playing field and in the classroom following the 2006 season. Three players earned WCC All-Academic teams honors, and four players were named to the NSCAA All-West Region team. Juniors Joslyn Slovek and Katie Osborne were named to both academic teams.

Osborne, Slovek and Whitney Temple represent LMU on the women's soccer WCC All-Academic team. The trio helped LMU advance to the NCAA Tournament in 2006. Slovek was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Year, and earned First Team All-WCC honors. The junior goalkeeper has a 3.39 GPA.

Defender Temple, a psychology major, earned Second Team All-WCC honors in her final year with the Lions, and has a 3.25 GPA. Osborne was the team's second leading scorer, finishing the season with four goals and two assists. The Natural Science major has a 3.53 GPA.

Osborne and Slovek were also named to the NSCAA/adidas College Women Scholar Athlete All-West Region third team. They were joined by senior Alicia Lloyd and redshirt sophomore Stefanie Baduria earned honorable mention honors. Lloyd is a history major with a 3.43 GPA, while Baduria is a Liberal Studies major with a 3.55 GPA.

The Lions also earned the Team Academic Award for having an overall GPA over 3.0.
