Player Journal - Ashlee Dunlap

May 17, 2005

Hey everybody! It's Ashlee and I just wanted to tell you all how the day went. I want to first start with the plane ride, which wasn't very long at all. I spent most of my time writing in my journal and listening to some good old Jay-Z to keep me busy. When we touched down in Cairns, I noticed how beautiful the place really was. It had an exotic feel to it. I was actually happy to see the wild life side of Australia seeing as though that is how I thought it was going to be prior to coming here.

As we exited the plane we noticed how humid it was, and it reminded me of my visit to Hawaii. The weather was perfect; not too windy, not too hot but just right.

That is exactly how Cairns is. In fact, someone told me that their whole winter is this way (must be nice). So after getting our bags, we headed straight for our hotel where we hung out for a bit before leaving for lunch. The place that we dined for lunch was a nice cozy little spot on the boardwalk near our hotel. I had a lovely Caesar salad and fries, which I enjoyed. Overall, the place was very nice. I especially liked the toilet seats in the bathroom. They had clear lids with plant life and toy spiders embedded in the seats. It was very cute.

After lunch, we headed back to the hotel to prepare for our game against the Dolphins. The gym was about 10 to 15 minutes away from the hotel so everyone had a chance to hang out in their rooms for a bit. After about an hour in a half or so, we started to head downstairs to depart for the game. I was pretty anxious because we were due for a win tonight and I was extremely hyped to get back on the court. We then arrived at the gym where we warmed up and prepared ourselves for the game.

I'd have to say that the game we played this evening was the most exciting one on our trip. We were down as many as seventeen points, but managed to rally up sufficient points needed to give us a winning chance. The game was truly exciting to participate in and observe as well. Our shots were falling second half and we decided to play winning defense that kept the opposing team on their heels.

It felt so good to get a win against these girls tonight because as a team, we needed it, and plus we knew it would make our trip a lot more fun. So after the game we sat and mingled with the girls from the other team. They were very nice young women and the company was fun. It didn't surprise me because all of the girls here in Australia have been extremely courteous, well mannered, and easy to converse with. So after chatting with the girls we headed back for the hotel to take showers and get ready for dinner. We were basically on our own for dinner so we decided to head back for the board walk where we all ordered pizza and some type of dessert And that was my day!! I am going to bed now, so I can be well rested for tomorrow, one of our busiest days of the whole trip. And guess what I'm going to be doing?? Yep you guessed right... BUNGY JUMPING!!!!! Yaay!
