Murphy Named National Team Camp Assistant Coach

May 15, 2005

Los Angeles, Calif. - Loyola Marymount women's soccer Head Coach Gregg Murphy has been named assistant coach of the US Under-20 Women's National Team Camp.

Murphy begins his national team tenure this week with camp starting Sunday at the Home Depot Center. The U-20 camp will run May 22-28, with the U-21 camp behind held concurrently at the Home Depot Center. Each camp will host 32 players from all around the United States.

This will mark the first training camp for the US Under-20 Women's National Team since the move from U-19s after FIFA shifted the age group of its only youth world championship for women up a year.

Murphy will assist the national team in preparation for the 2006 U-20 World Championships to be held in Russia. Ten players who were on the USA's 2004 U-19 team in Thailand are eligible for the next U-20 World Championship. Nine of them are coming in with the U-20s to this camp.

One of the outstanding young minds in college soccer, Murphy will begin his 10th season as head coach of the LMU women's soccer program in the fall.
