Box Score

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland junior Christine Sinclair gave the Pilots the overtime victory, putting away a cross from Lindsey Huie in the 93rd minute to give Portland a 1-0 victory over visiting Loyola Marymount Sunday afternoon at Merlo Field. The Lions (7-5-3) fall to 0-2-1 in WCC action, while the Pilots (14-2-0) remain undefeated in West Coast Conference games at 3-0-0.

The golden goal began with Pilot freshman Natalie Budge leading Huie on a run down the right sideline. Huie blew past a Lions defender and serviced a perfect cross to Sinclair who finished easily from 10 yards for her ninth game-winning goal of the season.

The Lions had the first overtime opportunity as Kelly Lewandowski found herself free on the right side of the box, but her left-footed attempt sailed over the crossbar.

The Pilots out-shot LMU 18-7 for the match, putting 10 shots on goal to the Lions' one.

In the second half, the Pilots peppered LMU's goal with 11 shots, forcing keeper Kelly Yukihiro to make six saves. Yukihiro snagged a Jennifer Tuttle header in the 66th minute, than made a good read to prevent Michele Scifo's header from finding the net in the 85th minute. Earlier in the period, Tuttle had a shot from the right of the penalty box go off the crossbar. LMU had two shots in the second period, neither on goal.

Portland had two headers snagged by Yukihiro in the first half. In the ninth minute, Natalie Budge made a good run into the left of the box and served a sharp cross to Jennifer Tuttle. A firm eight-yard header went directly at Yukihiro who was able to knock it out of danger. In the 40th minute, Tuttle's looping cross found Sinclair, who's 12-yard header to the upper right was saved.

Sinclair had four shots to the Pilots. Lewandowski had three shots and Lori Sims had two attempts for the Lions. LMU returns to Sullivan Field next weekend, hosting San Francisco on Friday afternoon at 4:00pm and St. Mary's on Sunday at 11:30am.
