Becky Clark put the Mustangs on the board early, scoring in the 11th minute. The Cal Poly defense did the rest of the work as the Mustangs downed Loyola Marymount 1-0 in a non-conference women's soccer match Sunday afternoon before 374 fans in Mustang Stadium.
Cal Poly's defense held the Lions scoreless the rest of the way. Loyola
Marymount (1-1-0 Overall) outshot Cal Poly (2-0-0 Overall) 13-11, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal, but the Lions just could not find the back of the net.
The closest the Lions could get was a shot by senior Shari Nishikawa. Nishikawa's shot hit the
crossbar and came straight down inches outside the box late in the first half. It was one of two shots on the day for the midfielder from Hawaii.
The Lions return to action next weekend at the Colorado College Tournament in Colorado Springs, Col. LMU will take on Washington on Friday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m. PST.
