Los Angeles, Calif., - Sunday, Oct. 26, 2003 - The Loyola Marymount University women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to No.3 Portland at Sullivan Field on Sunday afternoon. Senior Laura Trask led LMU offensively with three shots on the day.
The Lions drop to 7-7-3 overall and 0-5-0 in West Coast Conference action while the Pilots move to 16-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the WCC with the win.
Despite being outshot 5-0 in the first half the Lions didn't waiver. LMU came out firing in the second half nearly matching Portland shot for shot. The Pilots put up nine second half shots to eight for the Lions.
LMU played the 3rd-ranked Pilots tough throughout the game. Lion goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro shutout the Pilots for 74 minutes and made nine saves in the game. A good defensive showing for the Lions was blemished when an LMU own goal put UP 1-0 at the 74:11 mark of the game.
The Lions continued to counter despite the setback. Sophomores Lori Sims and Jessica Hanson each put up good shot attempts that were saved by Portland goalkeeper Cori Alexander. Hanson finished the day with two shots while senior Haleigh Roach and sophomore Kelly Lewandowski each attempted one.
The Lions take a break in WCC action to face No.3 UCLA this week. LMU heads to Westwood to take on the Bruins on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
