Malibu, CA - The 20th-ranked women's soccer team dropped an 0-2 decision at No.13 Pepperdine in both team's West Coast Conference
(WCC) opener Sunday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field. Freshman Tana Smothermon led the Lions with two shots on the day.
The loss dropped LMU's record to 7-3-3 overall and 0-1 in the WCC while Pepperdine improved to 11-2-0 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
The Waves took a 1-0 lead at the 20:23 mark when Loyola
Marymount headed in an own-goal off a throw-in. The score remained 1-0 until the 72:18 mark when Maytal Shvartz took a pass on the
run from Lacey Ubaldi and shot the ball into the back right
corner of the goal and past Lions goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro.
Smothermon posted the Lions' only shot on goal of the afternoon. Seniors Laura Trask and Stephanie Tobin and sophomores Kelly Lewandowski and Lori Sims each collected a shot for LMU.
The Lions continue WCC action on the road next weekend. LMU travels to face Santa Clara on Friday, Oct. 17 and San Diego on Sunday, Oct. 19.
