Five Loyola Marymount attackers racked up seven or more kills as the Lions downed Oklahoma 3-0 (30-25, 30-20, 30-20) during the second session of the LMU Invitational in Gersten Pavilion, Saturday morning.
Kristen Gallup once again led the Lions with nine kills. Tiana Newsome and Kea Kimball each posted eight kills, while Jody Carlson and Dina DeBernardi both had seven. LMU had a .349 attack percentage for the match, while Newsome posted an outstanding .727 mark (8-0-11).
Libero Laura Gustorf led the defensive charge for LMU with 10 digs. The Lions had nine more digs than the Sooners (32-23) and 12 more kills (43-31).
Oklahoma's Megan O'Connell earned match-high honors with 11 kills, with a .450 attack percentage (11-2-20).
The Lions next play the Duke tonight at 7 p.m. Both the Blue Devils and LMU are 2-0 in the tourney.
