Coach Murphy to Host Chat Session

Nov. 15, 2002

Los Angeles, CA (Nov. 15) -- Loyola Marymount University women's soccer coach Gregg Murphy has been riding high this week as his Lions earned their first bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Cup. Murphy will talk about that and the women's soccer program when he is the featured guest on a LionsLive Chat Session Monday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.

To join the chat session, go to the LionsLive section on the LMU athletics' website. Questions can be submitted to Coach Murphy at any time prior and during the chat session.

The women's soccer team will play UCLA in the first round of the Women's Soccer Cup today, Friday, Nov. 15, at 8:30 p.m. The game will be carried live on LionsLive starting at 8:25 p.m.

Coach Murphy helped the Lions to a 10-6-3 record this 2002 season and after being overlooked in strong campaigns in 1998, 1999 and 2000, Murphy has the Lions in the NCAA playoffs for the first time in program history. Heading into the game against UCLA, Murphy is 70-49-11 at LMU, earning 83 percent of the program's victories. In program history LMU has won 84 games.

In his seventh season with LMU, the Lions have had five seasons winning 10 or more games. And Murphy has a team loaded for the future. LMU has 10 freshman on this year's squad that have earned valuable playing time.

Freshman Kellie Schroeder continues to fuel the Lion offense. Schroeder pushed her team leading goals total to six with the goal she collected against San Francisco. It was her third game-winning goal of the season, which is tied for third in the WCC. The other two came in games against UC Irvine (10/10/02) and Gonzaga (10/20/02).

Schroeder is part of the Lion recruiting class that was ranked as the seventh best incoming class by Soccer Buzz magazine. The Albuquerque, N.M., native leads the team with 12 points this season. Fellow freshman Kelly Lewandowski is second on the squad with nine points and four goals, while Jessica Hanson leads the squad with 18 shots on goal. LMU freshmen have combined for 30 of the team's 60 points.
