Los Angeles, Calif. -- Loyola Marymount goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for women's soccer. Yukihiro came up with a pair of shutouts in wins over UC Irvine and No. 17 Pepperdine to lift the Lions record to 8-3-2 on the season, 1-0 in the WCC. The victories have lifted LMU into the top 10 of the NCAA Division I West Regional Ranking.
The blankings were Yukihiro's third and fourth shutouts of the season, lowering her goals against average to 0.74 with a save percentage of .853. She had a pair of saves against the Anteaters and seven against the Waves, who had been averaging 3.25 goals per contest this season. Yukihiro's victory also snapped Pepperdine's 12-match unbeaten streak dating back to last season's loss to UCLA in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Yukihiro now has 29 saves on the year, with just five goals allowed in seven games played.
It was the first league honor for Yukihiro and the second for the Lions this season. Senior Myka Peck earned WCC Player of the Week on Sept. 2.
The Lions return to action this weekend, when they travel to Portland and Gonzaga.
