Los Angeles, Calif., -- The 15th-ranked Loyola Marymount men's water polo team survived an early scare from No. 18 UC Davis and proceded cruised to a 11-5 victory Saturday at the Burns Recreation Center Pool.
The Aggies opened the game with two goals in the opening three minutes of play. However LMU sophomore Ryan Chapatte stopped the bleeding when he scored at the 1:50 mark of the first quarter.
The Lions (5-2) would then go on an 8-1 run in the second and third quarters to break the game open. Sophomore Kevin Witt and freshman Tamas Szego would each score twice during that span. Witt notched a total of three goals in the contest to extend his team lead to 18.
UC Davis would mount a mini-rally in the fourth period, scoring twice, but it proved to be too little too late. LMU senior goalkeeper Colin Robinson stymied Aggie shooters all afternoon, saving a career-high 11 shots.
The Lions wrap up a busy weekend of water polo tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. as they battle 16th-ranked Princetion at the Burns Pool.
