Lions Rewrite Record Book During Historic 2026 Spring Season

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The 2026 spring season saw the Lions continue their upward trajectory through a series of school records, all-time performances, personal bests, and event breakthroughs across the roster. From middle distance to the steeplechase to the 10,000 meters, LMU athletes steadily climbed the program's All-Time Lists while continuing to establish new standards for the program.

Highlighting the spring was the 4x800-meter relay team of juniors Rylee Guinn and Tessa Kline, senior Hayden Washington, and junior Emma Ronan, who broke the LMU school record in 9:25.43 at the Rossi Relays. The performance marked the second consecutive season the Lions lowered the school record in the event after the previous year's quartet had shattered a mark that stood since 2006.

Individually, senior Ayden Brown delivered one of the defining performances of the season at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, running 2:13.30 to move to No. 3 on LMU's All-Time List in the 800 meters while claiming the overall event title.

Freshman Kailey O'Brien made an immediate impact in the 3000-meter steeplechase, winning her collegiate debut in the event before later leaping to No. 6 on LMU's All-Time List. Junior Rylee Guinn also continued her ascent in the middle distances, finishing the season ranked No. 10 all-time at LMU in the 800 meters and No. 12 in the 1500 meters. Teammate Emma Ronan joined her on the All-Time List at No. 11 in the 800 following a series of breakthrough races throughout the spring.

The long distance squad also made major strides in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Junior Ava Boyd and freshman Collette Heil both debuted in the 10,000 meters at UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival, immediately moving onto LMU's All-Time List at No. 14 and No. 16, respectively. Boyd later added a standout 1500-meter debut at the Steve Scott Invitational after first posting another 5000-meter personal best the night prior.

Senior Hayden Washington added another all-time mark during the spring, moving to No. 19 in LMU history in the 1500 meters while continuing to lead the Lions in the 5000 throughout the season.
"This season was a reflection of the growth and momentum building within our program," said Head Coach Chloe Curtis. "We saw newcomers making an immediate impact across every distance, and seniors cementing themselves in program history. I am so proud of our team's hard work and willingness to go for it"

Across the season, the Lions combined health, depth, and consistency to produce one of the strongest collective outdoor campaigns in recent program history achieving milestones across the roster.
