Guinn Closes Out Action-Packed Weekend with Top-12 LMU All-Time Mark in 1500m

LA VERNE / AZUSA, Calif. — For the first time this season, the Lions had their full active roster in competition across a three-day stretch, splitting action between the La Verne Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational, April 16–18.

Junior Rylee Guinn closed out competition with a standout performance in the 1500 meters at Bryan Clay. Guinn ran 4:34.50 to secure the No. 12 time in LMU history, just two spots on the All-Time list behind Head Coach Chloe Curtis
"Rylee ran with so much poise on one of the biggest stages in college track and field," said Curtis. "I can't wait to see her move ahead of me on the all-time list."

Several other Lions delivered personal-best performances across the two meets. Junior Ava Boyd continued her strong season in the 5000 meters, running 17:39.79 at Bryan Clay. Junior Ruby Tiburcio posted a PR of 4:54.53 in the 1500 meters, while freshman Kailey O'Brien lowered her steeplechase mark to 11:50.10.

Katie Power added a strong 800-meter performance, running 2:23.56 at La Verne, a season best for the senior. The meet also marked season debuts for sophomore Anna Bridges and freshman Kelsey Calhoun, who competed in the 800 meters at La Verne, running 2:25.67 and 2:37.17, respectively.

Juniors Emma Ronan and Tessa Kline both competed in the 1500 meters at Bryan Clay, each finishing with the exact same time of  4:51.734—this despite competing in two different heats.

Senior Hayden Washington clocked 17:43.80 in the 5000 meters at Bryan Clay. At La Verne, junior Alex Zanon ran 18:51.47 in the 5000 meters, while senior Samantha Duwe followed in 18:54.18. Freshman Collette Heil continued to build experience at longer distances, running 39:49.83 in the 10,000 meters.

Across two meets and three days of racing, the Lions demonstrated both their depth and durability, with each athlete contributing to a full-team effort. "I'm really proud of our squad's consistency and competitiveness throughout this season," said Curtis.
"We have one more chance to show off all of our hard work at the Steve Scott Invitational, where I'm sure we'll see some breakthroughs," as LMU returns to the track May 1–2 at the meet hosted by UC Irvine.
