Lions Keep Momentum Going at Historic Drake Stadium

LOS ANGELES — Juniors Rylee Guinn and Emma Ronan led the way for the Lions at UCLA's Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and Legends Invitational on March 27–28, each recording personal bests across two events to headline a weekend of progress at Drake Stadium on the UCLA campus.

Ronan posted PRs in both the 1500 meters (4:46.10) and 800 meters (2:17.77), while Guinn set two PRs of her own, running 4:37.15 in the 1500 and 2:18.01 in the 800 meters. "Ronan's performance in the 800 puts her #10 on the LMU All-Time list and earned her Lion of the Meet honors as voted by her teammates. For her part, Guinn claims spot #11 on the list with her 800 meter time and #14 in the 1500. "Our 1500 crew set the tone for the weekend," said Head Coach Chloe Curtis.

Also highlighting the weekend was senior Samantha Duwe, who delivered a major breakthrough in the 5000 meters, dropping 38 seconds from her previous best to finish in 18:48.39. Freshman Kailey O'Brien continued her strong debut season in the steeplechase, running 11:54.13 to shave nearly 20 seconds off her previous mark.

Senior Hayden Washington and sophomore Alexandra Zanon both added personal records in the 1500 meters, clocking 4:39.88 (#19 LMU All-Time) and 5:00.55, respectively. Juniors Tessa Kline (4:50.62) and Ruby Tiburcio (4:56.18) showcased the Lions' depth in the 1500 each coming in within about a second of their previous best.

In the 800 meters, senior Katie Power ran a season-best 2:25.70 to round out the Lions' middle-distance efforts.

The weekend also marked a significant step up in distance for two Lions, as junior Ava Boyd and freshman Collette Heil made their debuts in the 10,000 meters. Tackling the 25-lap race for the first time, Boyd placed fifth overall in 37:28.99 (#14 LMU All-Time), while Heil finished eighth in 39:31.88.

"Our whole squad is on a roll," said Curtis. "I'm proud of how we executed and looking forward to Bryan Clay [Invitational] coming up in a few weeks." The Bryan Clay Invitational, set for April 16–18 and hosted by Azusa Pacific University, is considered one of the premier meets in the country.
