ABILENE, Texas — LMU dropped game two of its weekend series at Abilene Christian 11-5 Saturday, falling to 7-14 on the season after a six-run fifth inning proved too much to overcome.
Adam Behrens (2-2) took the loss, surrendering five runs on five hits over 4.1 innings, with Diego Cardenas' three-run home run in the fifth serving as the knockout blow. LMU burned through four additional relievers the rest of the way, as Cardenas added a solo shot in the eighth to finish with six RBI on the afternoon.
The Lions showed some fight late, scoring two in the seventh on a Travis Friend two-run homer, his fourth of the year, before adding three more in the eighth. Wall, Ghiorso and Mhoon reached to load the bases, and back-to-back walks forced in two runs before Wadas plated another with a sacrifice fly. The rally cut the deficit to 10-5, but LMU stranded nine runners on the day and went just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
The Lions and Wildcats wrap up the series Sunday with first pitch set for 10 a.m. (PT).
