LOS ANGELES – The West Coast Conference has named
Magdalena Rabitsch and
Ines Piret the inaugural Conference Pair of the Week following the first tournament of the year.
Â
In the opening week of the season, LMU played in the nation's toughest tournament, the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Classic. The Lions played five duals, all against opponents ranked inside the top-10 of the nation's AVCA Beach Volleyball poll. The pair of
Magdalena Rabitsch and
Ines Piret stood out for LMU, earning three wins at the 2s over the three days. In the opening game of the season, the pair earned the match's first dual point with a dominant win over #9 Cal, 21-11, 21-12. On Friday, the pair earned points in back-to-back matches over #1 UCLA and #6 Texas. Rabitsch and Piret were the only pair to defeat the Bruins on a court, winning 21-16, 18-21, 15-9, and then followed that up with a straight set 21-17, 21-17 win over the Longhorns.
Â
The Lions are set to host four matches this weekend at the on-campus LMU Beach Volleyball Courts. The Lions host Concordia and Long Beach State on Friday and then CSUN and Boise State on Saturday. Both days will have matches at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, with a neutral dual in the middle of the day at noon.
