HONOLULU, Hi. – The 2026 beach volleyball season is officially underway with seven of the nation's best teams competing in the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Classic. No. 7 LMU took down No. 9 Cal in the opening game on Thursday before falling to No. 4 USC in the evening match.
 
The Lions took a 3-0 lead to clinch the dual against Cal before the Golden Bears closed out the final two flights. Against USC, the Lions had to retire on Court 3 early, which gave the Trojans a quick 1-0 lead. The Lions took a point against USC on Court 1 in a three-set win to make the dual a 4-1 final.
